Leonardo.ai: is it worth paying for?

In short
An AI image and video generator popular for game assets and concept art, with a generous free daily allowance. Try the free tier before paying.
What it costs
- Free plan: 150 fast tokens a day, and creations are public (third-party, 29 October 2026).
- Cheapest paid: about $12 a month ($9.60 on annual billing) for 8,500 tokens a month. Sources disagree on the tier's name. Pound price not found.
- Contracts auto-renew. One third-party source says unused tokens are lost on cancelling; Leonardo's help centre says paid users can bank unused tokens for up to three months. Check before buying.
Suits
Hobbyists and designers who want model variety and a free daily allowance.
Does not suit
Heavy video users, because tokens burn fast, and anyone who needs privacy on the free plan.
What reviewers complain about
Trustpilot is high overall: 4.7 of 5 from 1,563 reviews, 9% one-star. Complaints are a minority. Trustpilot does not fact-check reviews. Themes, paraphrased:
- Cancellation and refund friction, including reports of a missing cancel button and refusals after tokens were used.
- Strict moderation, and tokens used up by blocked or failed generations.
