Microsoft Designer: the free option for images
Links on this page go to the company's own website. We do not currently earn from them. If that changes, this page will say "Ad" here and beside the link.
In short
Microsoft's AI image and design tool, free with a Microsoft account. Good for occasional social graphics at no cost. It is not built for volume.
What it costs
- Free: Microsoft support says people without a subscription get 15 AI credits a month, and Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscribers get 60 (Microsoft support, seen as a search snippet). Older "boost" allowances described elsewhere are probably out of date.
- Paid: we found no Designer-only plan. Microsoft 365 Personal is £84.99 a year or £8.49 a month (Microsoft UK store, seen via search only).
- Commercial use: one low-quality source says image creation was not permitted for commercial use. This is unverified, so read Microsoft's terms before selling anything made with it.
Suits
Casual, low-volume users who want quick graphics for free.
Does not suit
Volume or commercial production, or anyone who needs predictable limits.
What reviewers complain about
We found no Trustpilot or G2 page for it. On Microsoft Q&A, users report hitting "image generation limit" or "daily limit" messages even on paid plans, and credits showing as full while a limit message appears. Credits cannot be bought separately (Microsoft Q&A). These are user reports, not confirmed by Microsoft.
