Squarespace: is it worth paying for?
Links on this page go to the company's own website. We do not currently earn from them. If that changes, this page will say "Ad" here and beside the link.
In short
A design-led site builder with polished templates and selling plans. Good for portfolios and small premium-looking shops.
What it costs
- No free plan. A 14-day free trial with no card required (Squarespace).
- Basic Commerce, the cheapest plan with a store: the euro page showed €14.76 and €20.91 a month including VAT without saying which is annual. Third-party UK figures: Basic about £12 annual or £16 monthly, Core about £17 or £24, Plus about £29 or £36, Advanced about £79 or £89 (Startups.co.uk, Expert Market).
- Basic charges a 2% online store fee and has no discount codes or shipping labels; those need Core or above (Squarespace).
Suits
Creatives, portfolios and small premium-brand shops.
Does not suit
Sellers who want a large app ecosystem, or who need discounts without paying for a higher plan.
What reviewers complain about
Trustpilot shows 3.5 of 5 from 6,346 reviews, 39% one-star. Trustpilot does not fact-check reviews. Themes, paraphrased:
- Mostly automated support, with a human hard to reach.
- Difficulty recovering accounts, confusing plan choice, and an extra fee for bilingual sites.
