Midjourney: is it worth paying for?

In short
A subscription AI image generator known for stylised, artistic pictures, used on its website and Discord. There is no free plan. If you only want occasional images, try Microsoft Designer or Adobe Firefly's free allowance first.
What it costs
- No free plan or trial in Discord or on the website, according to Midjourney's help centre as quoted by a third-party write-up.
- Basic: $10 a month, or about $8 a month if you pay $96 for the year. Standard $30, Pro $60, Mega $120. Prices are in US dollars; we could not find a pound price. Basic has no Relax mode.

- Commercial use is allowed on paid plans; businesses earning over $1 million a year need Pro or Mega (Midjourney docs, seen as a search snippet).
Suits
People who want the most artistic look and are happy to pay monthly.
Does not suit
Anyone wanting a free tier, precise text and layout control, or certainty about pound pricing.
What reviewers complain about
Trustpilot shows 1.7 of 5 from 373 reviews, about 76% of them one-star. Trustpilot does not fact-check reviews. Recurring themes, paraphrased:
- Billing: automatic renewals, charges after cancelling, a yearly plan reportedly cancellable only after the full year.
- Support: no private support channel beyond Discord and forum moderators; ordinary prompts blocked by filters; credits running out quickly.
